Vacation in the land of 1001 castles

Saint Paul la Roche

As a family, we decided to settle in this area for the beauty of the landscapes, the history, the calm and the way of life (and the nice weather of course)

The small village of Saint Paul la Roche is labeled “Territoire bio engage” meaning that residents and the municipality have a shared intention of prioritizing local economy and living respectfully with nature.

Saint Paul la Roche owes its name partly to a giant quartz diamond, the White Rock, that came out of the green landscape millions of years ago. A village of 531 souls, this area is charged in history : from neolithique to templars, man has left traces.

In the village we have a cultural café which holds various events. The café is an association and most people in the village help out voluntarily. As it looks right now, the café is permanently open on Thursdays and Sundays. You can have a bite to eat, have a cup of tea / coffee or a glass of wine or a local beer these two days.

If you like hiking in beautiful nature, you have come to the right place. Here are many beautiful hiking trails in the woods and in the hilly landscape. Part of the Camino (17km) starts from the town of La Coquille, 10km from us.
You can also bike here but it requires that you really like biking.

The Dordogne is also called the "Land of the 1001 Castles". Big and small, the castles are always impressive and tell a story of times gone by. 6 km from our village you will find Jumilhac Castle in the village of Jumilhac le Grand. In this village you have market day on Sundays during summer and there are also many hiking trails starting in this village.
